Supervisor qualifications
Who may supervise fieldwork — under 2027, only active BCBAs® in good standing.
What it means
Under the 2027 standards, a fieldwork supervisor must be an active BCBA® in good standing with no current disciplinary sanctions (certified 1+ year with the ongoing supervision CEU, or certified under a year with monthly consultation from a qualified consulting supervisor). Supervisors must also complete the 8-hour supervision training before supervising. (The earlier 2022 rules also allowed a qualifying licensed psychologist or an ABAI Verified Instructor.)
Example
A BCBA certified for 2 years who has completed the 8-hour supervision training and meets the supervision CEU can supervise you today.
Where it trips people up
The supervisor may not be your relative, your subordinate, or your employer. And being an RBT® supervisor doesn’t make someone a qualified fieldwork supervisor — the requirements are different.
