The 60/40 unrestricted rule
At least 60% of your total fieldwork hours must be unrestricted activities, and no more than 40% restricted.
What it means
Across your entire fieldwork experience, at least 60% of your total hours must be unrestricted activities and no more than 40% restricted. For 2,000 Supervised Fieldwork hours that is at least 1,200 unrestricted and at most 800 restricted; for 1,500 Concentrated hours it is at least 900 and at most 600. The BACB® measures this over your total fieldwork — not per supervisory period.
Example
You finish with 2,000 hours: 1,300 unrestricted and 700 restricted. Unrestricted is 65% of the total, so you clear the 60% floor and stay under the 40% restricted ceiling. Compliant.
Where it trips people up
Because it is measured on your final total and restricted hours can never be un-logged, letting restricted quietly pass 40% forces your total above 2,000 (or 1,500) just to rebalance — and those extra hours must be unrestricted. Watch the ratio every month, not at the end.
