What counts as fieldwork

Only behavior-analytic work counts — assessment, program design, training, supervised delivery. Admin and non-BA tasks don’t.

What it means

The BACB® only counts behavior-analytic activities toward fieldwork: conducting assessments, designing and monitoring programs, writing behavior plans and clinical notes, overseeing implementation, training others, and collaborating with caregivers. It does not count non-behavioral work — billing, paperwork, general administration, non-BA trainings (CPR, crisis management), diagnostic or intellectual assessments, conferences, or course assignments.

Example

Writing a client’s behavior plan counts; sitting in a staff meeting with little behavior-analytic content does not.

Where it trips people up

A lot of a real ABA job isn’t countable fieldwork. Your supervisor decides whether an activity qualifies — when in doubt, ask before you log it, because non-behavior-analytic hours are disqualified in an audit.
